A flu pandemic is when a flu virus spreads easily between people and
causes illness and or deaths in a widespread area or around the world.
Depending on how severe the flu pandemic is, some types of services and
goods could run low or be interrupted. Schools, child-care facilities
and businesses could be closed for a time as authorities try to slow the
spread of the flu. It is important for each of us to support those
efforts.
Some basic steps to take are:
• Wash hands often and well using hot soapy water.
• Cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing and dispose of used tissues
appropriately.
• Don’t touch your nose or mouth area with unwashed hands.
• Don’t share items that could spread mucous or saliva.
• Avoid close contact with people who are ill.
• If you have the flu, stay home until you are well.
Public Health Authorities will tell us if a flu pandemic has been
declared. The Office of Student Affairs will then alert the campus
community.
